Optimising IT increase sponsorship for 2023 with the launch of the 7 Race Series carbon offsetting project

We’re thrilled to announce Optimising IT (www.optimisingit.co.uk) as a continued sponsor of the 7 Race Series for 2023. The company have been involved with us for some time, and we’re pleased to enhance this partnership for the coming season.

There is double excitement in this news story, as we are also pleased to announce our offsetting of some of the carbon emissions linked with the 7 Race Series too.

Optimising IT, just as it sounds, provides IT services, supporting businesses across the UK with offices in Gloucester and Exeter. The company has been involved with the 7 Race Series for a number of years, with business founder, Gary Smith, one of our regular competitors (and reigning 1600 Champion).

For this season, Optimising IT wanted to continue its sponsorship programme with us, but had also been looking into the carbon offsetting initiative. Given the link between us both, and our obvious involvement within the motorsport community, it seemed fitting to launch this campaign together.

So, what is carbon offsetting? An offset is an investment in projects that reduce or remove greenhouse gas emissions. It is a purchasable good used by individuals, organisations and governments to compensate for the emissions they create.

Our position in the motorsport industry obviously means we create a great deal of emissions, and so we have been exploring options on how to combat this.

Motorsport UK launched its carbon offsetting initiative in recent years, and as a signatory of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), is committed to achieving a 50% reduction in emissions by 2030, alongside reaching net zero emissions by 2040.

As members of the wider motorsport community we fully support Motorsport UK’s initiative to meet sustainability targets. Together with Optimising IT we will reduce all unavoidable emissions on behalf of our drivers, teams and all 7RS members with our own 7 Race Series forest. There are a number of carbon reducing projects recommended, which each help to reduce greenhouse gases. Emission removal from the atmosphere, for example, by planting trees, which sequester – or capture carbon from the atmosphere that is stored in liquid or solid form helps towards reducing greenhouse gases, and so with our very own forest through our partnership with Ecologi, we can help towards tackling climate change.

Commenting on both the announcement of our continued sponsorship programme, as well as our new carbon reduction 7 Race Series forest project, Sean Bicknell, said: “It’s great to have Gary and the Optimising IT brand back in the 7 Race Series for another year. We all love our motorsport, but in this day and age we have to be aware of any damage we may be causing to our environment. Working with Optimising IT on being able to start reducing the carbon that we produce at our events, hopefully shows we are responsible for our actions and are contributing to a sustainable future for motorsport. And who doesn’t love the idea of a 7 Race Series forest!”

Gary Smith added: “We’re looking forward to working more closely with the 7 Race Series this year especially with their increased growth in audience, participation and coverage, in addition to supporting them with their carbon offsetting goals.”

We’re very much looking forward to working with Optimising IT throughout the year, not only as sponsors of the 7 Race Series, but also working together on our carbon offsetting project, as we do what we can to help combat climate change.
